Directory. Anyone can help, even shut-ins.
There are many people in this community who live alone. Many of them have a disability. There are many things you can do
to help those who need help, or that you can do for yourself.
- Everyone who lives alone should have a MEDICAL ALERT system. If you fall or are ill, you press a button on the unit
and it calls for help wherever you are in your home.
- If you don't have a MEDICAL ALERT system, keep your cell phone on you at all times.
- Lois Wiesler has initiated a BUDDY SYSTEM to call you daily, just to make sure you are okay. She will try to match you
up with someone in the community. She also needs volunteers to act as a buddy. Call Lois at 278-3559 if you are
interested.
- The Mae Volen Senior Center can cater to some of your needs, i.e. in-home services, wellness and prevention
programs, early intervention for people in the early stages of dementia, support for caregivers, a senior transport
system and home delivered meals for homebound seniors. Reach them at 395-8920 or 265-3667.
- In case of a hurricane, Stan Wasserstein has a list of most of the disabled in this community. To make sure you are on
this list, call Stan at 279-8385.
- Flu shots are being offered again on Oct. 15, 2009. Be sure and get yours.
Bernice Neuhaus wants you to know that the program for cell phones for our soldiers has been renewed. Bring your old
cell phones to the Library Monday, Wednesday or Friday between the hours of 1 to 3 pm.
Remember, we are there for you because WE CARE.

Rainberry Bay Delray Beach's best kept secret
|
I have been working with Rainberry Bay WE CARE collecting cell
phones since July 2008. To date R.B. residents have donated 156
cell phones that were collected in our library. I have arrangements to
pick up the used cell phones that are exchanged for calling cards to
be distributed to the Military and their families. Once a month I deliver
them to a volunteer that brings them to a distribution center in Boca
Raton.
Watch for my request for used cell phones under WE CARE on RIC
and the bulletin board in our club house.

More than 100 people came over to the Clubhouse Auditorium to celebrate
the wonderful work of WE CARE. The tables were set for 80 but we quickly
seated the overflow crowd. How wonderful to see so many of our neighbors
come together for a celebratory event. The guest speaker was a woman from
RSVP. Ask Marion about this worthwhile organization. It is an umbrella group
for volunteer positions throughout the community.
Our very own professional singing duo, "Like Honey" got everybody singing
along and even dancing. "Like Honey" is made up of residents Joan Glasser
and Alexandra Collins. They can frequently be seen at Gizzy's and other
venues around town. They are great!!!
So many new neighbors were there, as well as long-time residents. What a
lovely way to spend the afternoon. Thanks to Fay Brown for the beautiful
decorations and to Marion & Jack Small for putting together this special
tribute.
WE CARE NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS
Our neighbors to the south, Haiti, will need durable Medical Equipment for many years to come. We Care asks you to check your garages, closets and patios for walkers, wheelchairs, crutches, canes or any other equipment that you can donate. Call the We Care number or call me (Marion Small) at 274-8788 for more information.
I have already made arrangements through church groups to have them flown to Haiti. Please help!!
